During the official launch for the kick-start of the Ateker Development Foundation Multi-Actor Partnership (ADEFO-MAP2) project in Kaberamaido District on Wednesday 4th February 2026 at Kaberamaido District Headquarters, the leadership of Kaberamaido District Local Government ranked Soroti Catholic Diocese Integrated Development Organization (SOCADIDO) as the leading development partner in the district.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC), Mr. Hood Kisenene, commended SOCADIDO for its impactful interventions, noting that ADEFO-MAP2 is a timely and transformative initiative that will directly benefit 600 smallholder farmers in Alwa and Aperkira Sub-counties.
He highlighted the success stories from Phase I of the project, where farmers recorded: increased production, improved market access, and reduced post-harvest losses.
He emphasized that, “This project is going to create markets, reduce losses, and promote sustainable production and value chains. I urge farmers to take this opportunity seriously and improve their livelihoods.”
The LC V Chairperson, Hon. Victor Rex Ekesu, encouraged communities to embrace farming as a business, promote bulk production, collective marketing, and revive farming in high-value crops like groundnuts. Mr. Ekesu described agriculture as a living undertaking, therefore, in 5-years’ time the impact of the project should be seen on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kaberamaido, Mr. Masokoyi Wasswa urged farmers to seriously take farming with a business model, where its profits should be put back to grow the business. He advised the district’s Community Development Officer to prioritise mindset change as the first step for strengthening smallholder farmers.
Our (ADEFO-MAP2) Project Coordinator, Mr. Ben Boham Okiror, revealed that the project is worth UGX 4.116 billion and will run from November 2025 to October 2029. The initiative is expected to benefit directly 3600 farmer households and indirectly 64,800 smallholder farmers.
The benefiting districts include; Kaberamaido, Kapelebyong, Katakwi, Ngora, Soroti district and Soroti City.
The launch of ADEFO-MAP2 project marked another milestone in promoting inclusive economic growth, sustainable agriculture, and stronger value chains in Kaberamaido District and the wider Teso sub-region.
Together, we are building resilient farming communities and transforming livelihoods.
